Brinco meaning, “jump” in Spanish are sneakers designed by Judi Warthein are now on display as part of an exhibit at London’s Tate Modern Museum. The sneakers were specifically designed to help illegal immigrants seeking to cross the Mexican- American Border as well as drawing attention to the free flow of goods and restrictions of labor in the global marketplace. These border cross trainers com fully equipped with a compass mini flashlight and secret pockets to stash away some money. Limited to 1000 pairs the artist distributed them free to Mexicans setting off for the border and conversely sold at some high end boutiques. Proceeds from the sale of the shoes go to a house shelter in Tijuana. They are available at the TATE for 250 pounds which is about $500.
